The Vision

OK, I've been asked what my 'vision' is for this blog and thought I'd share this with you today.

Apart from the obvious information regarding food and travel, I'm hoping to extend this to include historical and nutritional information on foods from all over the world and then give you some recipe ideas or even tips on what restaurants to go to for the best dishes on the produce discussed.
I also want to share info on ideas where to take children whilst still enjoying great food and travel experiences - we don't need to take them to places with a playground devoid of any idea of how and what real food is.
My children have been delighted by dining on Jalan Alor in KL and visiting Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in Borneo instead of Disneyland (although there is a time and place for Disneyland), and it would be great to show people that this is possible.
There might also be tips on growing veggies and fruit.... as I try to succeed with my own garden.
To be totally honest and upfront with you all, it has also been a very challenging and difficult year that provided a unique opportunity to re-evaluate and do some 'soul searching' for want of a better term (maybe Fiona can help me out here? : ))
I've learnt quite a lot about myself and the spiritual world around me and this has brought some amazing people into my life, so along the way, i might share some of this with you too.
I know there is much to improve on my blog, it's a start and I hope you'll be there to see it grow and blossom into the vision i have for it.
Thank you for all your interest, kind words and love to you all.

Have a great day!!

The Beginning

Finally!! My blog is up and running in preparation for the 3 week trip through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, children in tow, leaving on the 5th of January
I've been told I'm either very brave and optimistic or just plain crazy, taking a 4 and 9 year old backpacking on my own, but isn't life an adventure anyway?
I want my children to understand there is a wonderful big wide world out there and to expand their understanding of what is really important in life and develop more empathy for their fellow human beings, but of course also enjoying the wonderful tastes and aromas of the unique regional cuisines as we explore markets and attend cooking schools along the way.
I hope I can share with you delicious, authentic recipes and maybe some ideas on travelling with children as I work it out on the fly. Could provide some rather entertaining moments I'm thinking, probably for you more so than me. I'll be posting photos and regular updates as we traverse these fascinating countries, so keep checking in and sign up for updates.
Hmmm.... first task before we leave is to pack everything for 3 people into one 65litre backpack. Could provide a post all on it's own I think.
If you have any ideas on what you'd like to see me include in my posts, please let me know, I'd love the feedback.
Till next time, enjoy!!
Lisa
